I have a BS and MS in Aerospace Engineering. Aerospace and Mechanical engineering degree programs have a fair degree of overlap. The major difference I've noticed is MEs have an introduction to machine design and AEs have aerodynamics and stability.
I spent two years working at a defense contractor before I was laid off last August. I live in NH, USA and have been trying to find work in the ME field in this area. So far I haven't been very successful and it appears to be because of a lack of design experience. Most of my two working years were spent working on CFD and heat transfer analysis.
My question is, what types of career transitions can be made for an ME? What kinds of jobs require some ME skills but are not regular "Mechanical Engineer" positions?
Thank you for any and all advice.
