A praise for Roehm lathe chucks

Hi!

Got a new lathe some weeks ago (Chinese, can't afford the real thing; didn't find used what I wanted). The 3 jaw chuck that came with it was "perfect" Chinese craftsmanship. It could only be opened with one of the three holes. I returned it and said, that I want a Röhm chuck (willing to pay the difference) as replacement. As they didn't have it stocked, they lent me an other used Chinese chuck. Similar crap.

This week, the Röhm arrived and it is -despite that it is not their high-end version- *damned* accurate. Runout is guaranteed to be 0.03 mm (or so) for a 160mm chuck. In fact, it is 0.002mm without fiddling. Just drop the part in, close and you're done. Lathe's spindle nose is Camlock.

It is fun having reliable tools!

.002mm or .002 inch? Sorry about the empty post. Trying to cancel it.

Yes, 0.002 mm. Inches wouldn't qualify for a praise (pun intended). :-) Röhm also has Hi-True (or so) chucks that can be centered. Simple and very effective mechanism, out of my league.
