Something to ponder...

Take a look at the cheap VSR Drills Harbor Freight offers. Should give you variable speed, reverse and enough torque to do the job. You might be able to replace the crank or add a hex nut to it and then just chuck up a socket in the drill. Leave it plugged in close by and then just slip it over the nut, set the drill in the appropriate direction and pull the trigger. I believe HF also sells one of the "Hole Hawg" knock offs too, which is an angle drill on steroids. Made to turn big forstner bits/hole saws through wood joists for running plumbing/drain pipes.

Just throwing out some suggestions...

Connect a cheap cordless drill to it. You will have forward and reverse and variable speed. Coudn't get much simpler than that.
