Key trigger-words/phrases you just used: disaster, dangerous, uncharted, impact, head-long plunge, danger. Have you read any of the non-disaster discourses on possible changes in the climate due to increased CO2 levels? Like more cloudcover and rain (both mitigating heat buildup, etc.)

Why did none of these charts show any of the volcanic eruptions in the past years? Interesting how that data is overlooked, isn't it?

I strongly suggest you read some of the non-hysterical, non-fear-mongering versions before you get an ulcer.

I know how you're going to respond, but how do you feel about dropping the use of coal burning plants for nuclear power stations? That'd put the USA right in line for the coveted (and useless) Kyoto Protocol target specs, huh? ;)

Put down your Algore and your Rachel Carson books and go grab some Ronald Bailey, Peter Huber, Bjorn Lomborg, Brian Fagan, S. Fred Singer, Roy Spencer, and Aaron Wildavsky (I haven't yet read some of these but hope to get around to them soon.) There's a lovely 21 page bibliography in Crichton's _State of Fear_ which will steer you to these (and more) authors' books. Some day I'll scan and post it.

Every time I've taken the time to read and learn more about the topic, I become even more skeptical about GAK. If you're truly open-minded and want to know the truth, read some more about it and doublecheck everyone's facts.

dont know. I have always used incandescent 50 watt lights over my lathe.

I have actually seen the strobing effect just once. the guy used solar power to a large battery bank and then used a step up electronic inverter to drive the fluoro lights. every time he turned his lathe on it looked stationary when it was up to speed.

the really disturbing figure is that before leaded petrol there was no atmospheric lead. since the introduction of leaded fuels the atmospheric lead levels have steadily risen.

lead causes stupidity doesnt it? maybe that is what is causing all of this.

btw the dumbest idea I've ever heard is CO2 sequestration. for every carbon atom buried we lose 2 atoms of breathing gas. stupid if ever there was stupid.

when it is snowing over there do you ever look out the window and wonder where global warming is when you need it :-)

The guy that owned my mill before me fit it with a tractor light. It's got a waterproof housing, and you don't have to worry about getting it wet. They added a 12 volt battery charger to the control as a power supply for the light.

The undisputed fact is that you don't seem to notice the dispute. You're only looking at the "facts" that happen to agree with you. The only place it isn't disputed is in your head.

I'm not sure what the problem is with my building. I was eating incandescent like candy. They'd only last a month or two. I'm sorta close to train tracks, and have an all steel building. I decided that vibrations may be eating the bulbs, so I switched to a bulb that was designed for high impact applications. They didn't do any better. I've since switched to CF bulbs, and get better life than the incandescent, but only about half the life (at best) that they advertise. My home was supplied by the same power company, but from a different transformer. I've never had these problems at home.

Bloody good idea! Not just the USA but every where except France (that already did it). Until we can get commercial fusion reactors on line, fission reactors are the next best thing. Coupled with that we should be working a lot harder to get commercial fusion reactors available than we are at the moment.

Oh, and natural gas is a chemical feedstock, not a power station fuel!

Hi,

Fluorescent tubes and state of the art ballast, seem to have a short lifetimes in my office. Not much last more than two years. The maintenance man who replaces lights on campus stated that there are a few other rooms like mine. Their records show this. I talked with someone who had my office 30 years ago and he said the lighting failed often at that time. Other rooms near mine seem OK.

No, lots of people do it. "eerie" isn't the word I usually use to describe it though.

Check your system for neutral problems. I've seen where a corroded neutral alowed the 120v branch circuits vary from 85 to 145 or so depending on loading. This is best done with a meter that has a min-max function.

I've got a few friends that are very vocal on the issue that over population. I've certainly seen it discussed many times. Everyone I know understands without question that man is the cause of the problems.

But as far as why you don't see it discussed in the context of issues like Global Warming, isn't it obvious why it's not discussed? Who do you think would be in favor of killing humans in order to reduce man's impact on the Earth? Who do you think would be in favor of population controls in order to reduce man's impact on earth? Who do you think is going to choose not to have children because of Global Warming? There's no point to include the topic in any public statements about Global Warming because it's the least likely action anyone is going to be able to do anything about. It's hard enough just to get people to consider the idea of changing a single light bulb in their house without raising their hands and crying foul.
