How the heck did you end up with that?
Wes
I bid $1 just for the heck of it.
Anyway, according to the "auctioneer", with whom I talked after sale, it is actually just 3 bags of 25 kg each. I do not know whether to believe him, I would say 50-50 odds that he is not BSing me.
On Thu, 12 Mar 2009 23:06:27 -0400, the infamous Wes scrawled the following:
He wanted the pallet of laptops, so he bought the contents of Pallet Group B for $10. It came with 4 pallets of pellets, eleven pallets of gold bars, and twelve pallets of unobtanium strips.
Or something like that. Ig's lucky at auctions.

Would be cool to have you as a neighbor.
I will let you know as soon as any house next to me goes on sale!
Hey Iggy, Property is a lot cheaper in the Southern part of Illinois :-)
I've always wanted to play with plastic injection molding, I have made a couple of home shop molds and a hand injector, worked well. But I've never had a source for some plastic pellets to experiment with :-(

You can have these bags for $10 per bag. Each bag has 50 lbs of pellets.
--Is it just natural color Nylon or might it be something more exotic like Nylatron?
I have no clue, I have not even opened the bags. But I can check.
Each bag should be clearly marked - even if the material is from a repackager. Nylon 6, 6/6, or whatever. The only likely way this wouldn't be the case is if the material is reprocessed from regrind, but even at that it would be unusual for the bags to be unmarked. Nylatron is an alloy and if that is what you have, it is gold. It might also be Mynlon (SP?) Either way, nylons are hygroscopic and if it's gotten wet enough it isn't worth anything. You have lots of local injection molders in the area. Take a sample to one of them with a hot air dessicant dryer and see if it can be properly dried to -40F.

Plenty of markings, I will take some pix.

It is called "Vydyne". The bags might be waterproof.
Can that stuff be melted and cast?
It's 6,6 Nylon then and yes, the bags should have a liner integral to the bag. They might also have a foil layer.
It's an injection moldable resin so I wouldn't think so.
No markings on the bags?

Hey Speff,
Did you ever get your molding machine up and running? I suspect not, or you would have jumped on Iggy's offer.
Brian Lawson, Bothwell, Ontario.
What, you're not going to keep it yourself and build a rapid prototype machine?
