Fine thread reducer bushings

Anyone have a good, reasonable source for a thread reducer bushing from 1/2UNF to 3/8 UNF? I have a 1/2" UNF tapped hole in an aluminum part and need to install 3/8" UNF bolts. I can make them, but would prefer a ready supply. (only need 6 to start with)

Thanks - now I just need to find someone with a McMaster-Carr account here in Canada.

MSC sells thread repair inserts that might work for your application.

Nope - standard thread repair inserts don't use standard tap and the ones that do use UNC for the outer threads - at least the ones I've found.

Why? McMaster sells to anybody and ships anywhere.

The helicoils use a special tap but the solid ones with the four pins that you drive in to lock the insert you can get in any combination of standard threads, even metric to inch or inch to metric.

The solid ones do, but they are usually coarse thread. The one's I've used were sold by Pioneer, but there are lots of brands.

They used to.

Now, with regard to export markets they are particularly snotty about dealing with anything other than very large, long established customers. It's a pity, because while we only did a couple of thousand dollars worth of business a year with them, it saved an awful lot of sourcing time from other suppliers.

I thought they had stopped dealing with small Canadian accounts, or was that MSC???

What manufacturer, what product name, what supplier please. Brofasco cannot find a source in Canada and ordering through them from M/C they are over $7 each.(possibly significantly over)

Like I said, the ones that use a standard tap are generally (in my experience, the ones available up here are ALL) UNC external threads. For me, not an option.

I've been trying, believe me. I do know a few companies that WERE buing from M/C- I'll see if they still are and if they have an order going in.

No luck. Keenserts are UNC on the outer diameter on ALL inch sised inserts.
