Gearmotor uses?

Cleaning out the shop, selling some things I'm not using. I ran across a big Dayton gearmotor

115/220V 1/2 HP 30 RPM

I'm tempted to keep it, but I'm scratching my head imagining any sort of use for it in a home shop.

What would such a beast be good for, or how are these used in industry?

With a 1:2 or 1:4 chain drive, it could be used for pig roasting.

How much do you want for it?

Spit turner for a whole buffalo? It'd roll a pretty good sized garage door up and down. Reposition your satellite dish, too. Make a really big animated sign. Sprockets and chain make it a whole lot more useful for a lot of things.

There's a thought!

I actually thought of that, but it doesn't appear to be reversible.

I figured conveyor belt or something in a production line.

Ig, I have no idea what it's worth. This looks like the current equivalent, at $587 new:

Build an observatory in your back yard and use the motor to rotate the dome.

Get yourself an apple packing line. My line uses six of these. This motor is found on most all conveyors.

Conveyor drives, milk tank mixers and many other uses.

Hook it to a 4:1 reduction drive and you would have a great unit for a big spit cooker for BBQ.

Run your cement mixer?

Excellent suggestion!!!!

Use it to stir heated plastisol in a Presto Pot. RPM is about right.

Details! Reversible gearing, so that it lifts the door, then hits a stop, shuts off, then when it goes up the second time, the gears switch and the door is lowered. Okay, maybe not pr actable, maybe a bit "rube Goldberg" but ... its an idea!

As mentioned "Cement mixer". Or a big tumbler, or mixer for compost, potting soils, or tossed salad for family reunion.

Hmmm, build a couple tracks, on the garage floor, use it as a winch to park the car, or boat, or RV, or

Hybrid Go cart?

Lotsa good ideas here. Cement mixer has merit, though I could probably buy one from HF cheaper than I could build one. But my place cries out for concrete.
