Ebay buying question

Would you buy new unmade kits on Ebay for a near RRP price?

No ripoffs or silly discounts.

Just testing the water!

If they were guaranteed to be as complete as the manufacture supplied them, I would consider it. Depends on what kits they are - plastic, forget it; etched brass, very possibly.

Generally I bid up to 2/3rd the RRP for stuff on e-bay mainly because if I was going to pay RRP I would prefer to buy from a shop as that gives me more rights as a consumer should there be anything wrong with the item or the transaction.

The thing that does amaze me is when people pay more than the RRP of a new item when the thing they are bidding on is marked as used. An example of which was a recent auction for some MKI farrish coaches. Most retailers are selling these at around £10:50 each brand new. This auction they went for over £16 each plus postage !!

The only advantage E-bay has for me is that Paypal is widely used as a means of payment for items, and there are not a lot of shops that will accept paypal as a payment method (full marks to Rails of Sheffield who do )

If bid+P&P costs approached the RRP I'd consider it, as I'd be saving money overall, but be careful you don't get stung by sellers who stick on extortionate P&P costs.

Depends on how near. If I was going to pay close to the RRP, I would probably prefer to go to a retailer, who would me more likely to offer help if there are problems, or even advice on putting the kits together!

I am one of these people who would either want a bargain, or something that is hard/impossible to obtain elsewhere from ebay.

This is called auction fever - hearts ruling heads, and not wanting to be "beaten" by another buyer. I've been on the other end of that, as a seller, and sometimes I feel almost embarrassed by the final price. Almost!

Anyway, those ones make up for the "Is that all it went for?" moments!

Well I am thinking of plastic wagon kits, at a little under RRP making sure I don't make a loss!

Basically my local model shop does all RTR, the two nearest big ones don't keep a big selection of wagon kits.

I can post them at a reasonable price and hopefully not get stung too much by Ebay

I'd start with about 20 - 30 kits of BR vacuum era wagons and various carriage trucks.

I'm also considering stocking a few model paints.

I have already contacted a manufacturer (who I personally like the kits of) and I have an Ebay shop selling home made DVDs.

So it occured to me one night!

And I take PAYPAL

I would sell brand new!

Regular with DVDs - I have sold 2nd hand ones for more than I paid new

I'm planning on organising postage so that 3 or 4 kits woiuld be slightly cheaper than buying from a shop but 1 kit would be slightly more.

I have a big supply of used jiffy bags, I think recorded second class for about £1 for 1 or 2 kits with prices for selling enough over trade to pay ebay and paypal and to make abouit 50p a kit

I live near enough to two big (RM advertisers) retailers and their wagon kit supply is poor.

I can of course offer advise as why do you think I chose wagons!

I will also link to pictures of real ones

OK - I don't see why you shouldn't have a market there. Basically you will become another mail order outlet for your mystery manufacturer!

And so you should! And you should never start a sentence with a conjunction :-)
