HF ultrasonic cleaner report

Hi Don,

You need a Bat detector. See:

I understand (actually seen it, couldn't peek inside it though) an AM Radio can be modified slightly for doing this too.

I'll have to study a couple of those links a bit better myself. It has been a few years since I last searched for them and some of those plans look interesting...

Of course, these days, you'd use a $2 PIC, with 20Mhz clock, and use the timer, and a small resistor on the power line fed to the internal ADC to do the grid dip.

I ordered one -- how could I not? Ig, good luck with your surplus transducer and electronic design adventures!

I use one of these with my eyeglasses and it works just fine with a couple of squirts of liquid hand soap and hot water.

've had it for over 2 years and use it a couple of times a week with no problems so far. The first time I used it I was amazed at how good a job it did on getting the crud out from between the lenses and the frame.

Quite possible, I seem to recall it being in that range.

No, but they are maybe 4-5 years old.

Don, this is great and would be a nice thing to try. I want to finish a few things (trailer and compressor and getting rid of crap) and I will definitely revisit this, I have a 5 gallon stainless vessel that would probably be usable for this purpose. I saved that auction on my watch list.

Don, how big of a vessel can be used with this transducer, and how would I supply power to it (you say that a transistor and regular oscillator is not good enough). Please note that I cannot start stuff stuff right away since I need to finish other things. But it seems like a very nice project.

Ive been doing that for years with an old Blackstone that weighs a ton. I've been thinking about getting one of the HF small ones. It sure gets the crud out of the frames and nose peices. ...lew...

We have a 10+ year old tabletop ultrasonic humidifier which I've occasionally used to clean the accumulated crud off SWMBO's jewelry, using water with a couple of drops of "Joy" dish detergent in it.

It does a good job of getting the grotty stuff out of those many tiny crevices, and would probably work fine for other small stuff.

Don, I bought two Branson units at auction. One worked, I love it. The other didn't, you can have it if you need more work in your life. Of course, you'd have to wait till spring.

This is probably the most common use for my ultrasonic cleaner. I've just got water, dish soap, and a dab of ammonia in the tank. The glasses come out like new after 30 seconds.

Good poop Don -

I have been known to use Simple Green. It works nice. Bio friendly also. My wife uses it on the oven/stove - blinks eyes as it cleans up the burnt on stuff easily.

So I have to bring in my Gallon jug to refill her little one.

Mine sweeps frequencies - it tends to catch stuff that hides under a wavelength! :-) Martin H. Let me know if Don does not want them...

I'm not Igor but I've used an ultrasonic cleaner on glasses, and it's impressive/disgusting what comes off. Works great on keys too. I may actually buy my first cheapie HF anything and pick one up.

Most bright young designers would. This old circuit designer is still trying to get comfortable with PIC's and AVR's in logic circuits where their applicability is obvious.

Consider: the PIC is programmed to produce pulses of so many microseconds (based on energy) a variable everyonceinawhile to turn on a power MOSFET. That's cool -- until a cosmic ray or memory fart glitches the micro and it goes off in the weeds. The WDT will eventually catch that and get it back on track -- but parts of the power MOSFET will have long since left thru the new hole in the case.

Make that two transducers and we might do something. Troubleshooting by correspondence is too tedious to consider.

Good deal, Karl! I could pick it up on the way to the lake sometime during the summer. It's a little further to Starbuck via Dassel, but I'm never in a hurry and it might be a very pleasant drive. I'd save it to play with next shop season in any case.

It, not them, and Don does. Karl and I have collaborated on several projects over the years.
