Drill press

I'm shopping for a new drill press. I've narrowed choices to 3. Grizzly G0482

Could I get some opinions on any of these?

In general:

-I'm not that big on keyless chucks for heavy work.

-None of them say what holds the tooling into the morse taper spindle. My old Craftsman drill press has a threaded ring to provide that function. Do any of them have American made motors? Lots of horror stories about imported motors.

The bigger the column, the better.

The slower the slowest speed, the better.---- Unless you will be wanting to do real small stuff. Then, none of these have real high "high speeds".

The longer the spindle travel the better.

Try to see if one has a better drive system than the others. Some use tiny belts that may give problems. Is the belt easy to adjust/change?

I didn't notice anything about work lights. (maybe I just missed it???) You will need one, if one isn't included.

Do they all have GOOD spindle locks and fine adjusters for locking the downfeed? This is VERY important to me.

Look around at Amazon.com, by model number. I did this last week, just AFTER I purchsed a medium priced ($1100) table saw. There were lots of reviews by actual users, including the negative ones.

Have you concidered a used machine? I'm blessed with huge used machine dealers minutes from me. I needed a drill press also, and found a Powermatic for $150

I would be glad to find a decent used industrial type machine around here. (El Paso) Trouble is, when something like that happens, there are lines of people from Juarez, Mexico waiting to buy it.

Next time I drag my travel trailer out to California I'm going to make sure I have room in the truck.
