Homemade 'bed slide' anyone ?

Feb 16, 2004 3 Replies

Has anyone made a 'pullout shelf' for their pickup like the 'bed slide' units. I like the idea of NOT having to crawl in to drag the welder out plus the other 500 pounds of tools every time I go to fix 'something for someone else' ! If you have plans, even rough ones, I'd appreciate then. Bed slides are

5-600 $,seems a lot for 4 bearings and some metal....

thanks jay

Hey Jay,

There was a short thread here a few months ago about a guy who installs garage doors professionally. He made a roll-off cart for his S-10 size pick-up truck. It carried all the stuff he required for installation, and he rolls it off the truck and into the garage he is working in. I had something to do with a Craftsman table of some sort.

I don't "deja view", but it should show up there.

Take care.

All you need is some aluminum sheet and some nylatron strips. Nylatron is nylon plastic with molybdenum-disulfide embedded in it. The stuff looks grey, and slightly pearlescent.

It is incredbly slick, especially to itself.

Take a sheet of 1/4" aluminum and screw some strips across the bottom of it. A piece of pywood, with some strips going the other direction, below it will make it even smoother.

No moving parts needed.
