Is HF 45416 a self-excited induction generator?

It sure looks like one.

At these prices, why not try one for the bicycle experiments? Yes, I know it's big and heavy. Folks are working on human-electric hybrid mini-cars now. They call them velomobiles.

I would guess that "excitation" exists in the form of a PM stator.

Yeah, pretty much all of them are, now. My old Dayton had a wound stator. After 30+ years of non-use, we had to 'ring' the stator to get it generating again.

Well, it looks like it has a wound, rather than cast, rotor, no brushes, and there's a capacitor across the coil. That's what I see in the manual.
