Gunner once again you are way far behind the times.

All that stuff's been outsourced to China! Companies like that have found they can get much cheaper labor by contracting all those weapons manufacture overseas.

snip Far better that someone (*not* the military, necessarily), decide what is needed, and "skunk works" the design. For those who don't know/remember, They dsesigned/built the: U2, SR-71, etc.

They were told,, "Here is what we need to do, here is the budget (technologically)." Someone, somewhere, with input from "typical" end users (I'm sure Gunner would volunteer for a good paycheck :-)), to guide them. Otherwise, who knows what they might come up with. (Rememeber, a camel; is a mouse designed by comittee.) Too often, they seem to look for the most expensive way, not necessarily the best way. Forgetting that a bomb is away of applying force, to something.

Starting over with a "clean slate," might very well be the

*cheapest* way.

I really enjoyed reading what Ben Rich, manager of the skunk works after Kelly Johnston left, said about that. He went into it in some detail.
