Heh heh.
From what I hear, it'll work sort-of, but you get a lot better results with a Reil burner and adjustable regulator.

Yes it will work however its not anywhere near as efficient as a good homebrew burner is.......Biggest problem with thewse weedburners is fitting them into a furnace body, and then their economy of operation sucks big time.....For less money than the thing costs you can buy about $5 or 10 bucks worth of plumbing fittings and have what is most commonly used in hobby foundry setups.
Check out my website for a home foundry setup and a typical burner.....The better burners use a reducer bell instead of slotted burner tubes...Both work but the slotted type have a tendancy to be a bit fussy and are more involved to make, unless you have a mill or like to file and hand hacksaw pipes to make the slots.

I think it depends on how much you are going to use it. The Harbor Freight weed burner has no regulator, so you may have to tend it. The tank pressure will drop as you use the burner. A Reil type used with a high pressure regulator will keep a more constant flame.
I can't see how the weed burner would be less efficient unless it pulls in too much air. Having a kiln surrounding the crucible to keep the heat in is needed.
