I really need to get a new refractometer. I find cheap ones on ebay for about 20 bucks, and more expensive ones from MSC and McMaster upto several hundred bucks. It will likely sit int he same drawer with my electronic touch probes so it won't get damaged when not in use, but I don't want to cry if it does get dropped.
AI Overview says Tekcoplus 25-30 bucks, Agtec 40-60, and Triplett 65 may be in that bang for your buck category, but we all know I have a love hate relationship with the AI capped with a healthy dose of distrust. We had several "conversations" this morning alone where it admitted it was wrong when I called it out on details or demanded the actual specific references.
Triplett (or was it Tripletts) used to be a trusted name in test equipment. I had a Triplett VOM when I worked as a telephone line service tech back in the 80s for Arizona Telephone.
Agtec sounds like something agriculture related. I've got some buddies who are real large production commercial farmers. I guess I'll cal one of them and ask. I know when I was a kid working on the packing sheds out in the grapes at White Wing Ranch the bosses were always using a refractometer for checking sugar levels to tell the field guys when to stop picking for the day. That being said I never heard of Agtec before.
Tekcoplus. Never heard of them, but the quick summary specifically mentions machining emulsions.
Just based on past experience with other equipment I might lean towards the Tripplet.
