How much does 3/4 inch cold rolled steel rod weigh per foot?

Let's see... aluminum is .1lbs/in^3, and steel is approx. 3 times as dense, or .3lbs/in^3. 3/4" diameter is 3/8" radius, pi*r^2*h = 22/7 * 9/16 * 12, cancel the four, two and three and get 297/14 which computes to...(nah, I won't do the long division, I'll cheat)...21 in^3, *.3 = 6.4lbs. = 2.9kg.

Or Google it. Which should always be done anyway.

Hey Ed,

For 3/4 inch round steel, try 1.502 pounds per lineal foot.

Steel is generally taken at 489.6 pounds per cubic foot, or .28334 pounds per cubic inch.
