Stihl chain saws

Stihl has been known as one of the finest chainsaws made. But, I've been told recent saws are now made off shore with a quality drop :(

There's an 029 at auction today and I'm thinking of getting "the kid" a present. I see Stihl now sells this saw as an MS290. I'm guessing, did the slight number change coincide with the manufacture location switch?

That's what mine says MS290 and I bought it 2 years ago and it probably sat on the shelf for at least a year when the economy was going south.

Think it was $390. 20" bar

Works really well.

The 290 is not a piece of crap. It's got some plastic parts, but there have been no problems with the plastic parts. In fact, in 6 years of abusing mine, the only thing I've had to feed it other than gas, oil, and chains was a new fuel line at 5 years of age.

IIRC, the 0XX series in general are the "pro saws" and the MSXXX series are "farmer/homeowner" saws at about half the price. But they are not

50-hour saws like the brands sold at wal-mart & homedepot.

I've done a lot of damage with my MS290, it's a good chainsaw.
