Where to find a 1/4 MPT die

I have numerous pieces of schedule 80 aluminum tubing used as pressure washer lances.. They have fittings on the end that are 1/4" FPT. On occasion the tubing's ends will break and I have the need to do field repair. I know I can cut them with a tubing cutter but I have had no luck finding a 1/4" die that will cut the "correct" pipe threads.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find one of these. I did find one set but it was hundreds of pieces and all I need is one die.

MSC or McMAster-Carr shuld have a 1/4" pipe die, as well as some plumbing supply houses. They are pretty common, but most that I have seen are adjustable and need the housing into which they fit, and then also the ratchet handle into which this housing fits.

McMaster-Carr has them listed in HSS steel Part # 2685A13 I would bet places like Enco or Rutland would also have them in carbn steel at a lesser price.

Perhaps he is, like me, looking for US straight pipe thread dies.

The cooling line ports for GM TH automatic transmisisons are 1/4-18 straight pipe. Often incorrectly called "1/4-BSP", they are not 55 degree 1/4-19, but are actully

1/4-18 with 60 degree threads, but no taper. They are not AN, but seal on the 30 degree flange one major diameter up the threaded section. Where can I get a cutter for this?

Automotive shop I suspect.

Gun shops sell (web sites, mail order) gun specific taps and dies.

I suspect Automotive shops have these unique taps.

IIRC BSP means British Standard Pipe, which I believe is tapered.

What kind of a thread is used on GM TBI fuel filters (sometimes called a Saginaw fitting with an O ring)?

To mate with the female oil cooler fittings on a GM 6.5 diesel radiator, I used a steel hydraulic fitting, silver soldered a bushing to the OD, and machined it to receive an O ring. I could not find a proper fitting. Maybe these are the same as your transmission cooling line ports. Steve
