Which Steel To Use

Apr 24, 2007 1 Replies

I need some advice on steel selection for a project I'm working on. It is for a propeller puller to be used on inboard marine props. It won't be used underwater, so stainless is not necessary. The main force-bearing components are two circular steel discs 3 1/2" in diameter and 1/2" thick. The prototype seems to work fine, but was made up from odds and ends so I don't know what type of steel it is. Would 1018 be appropriate for this application? What about 1117 or

1141?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.
