How much are you willing to pay for a brand new one?

Hey Paul,

First, ask at the place you are going to get the lathe, as machine shops often have "junk" that they don't toss. Even ask the riggers there, and at your end.

Be sure to try locally at motor shops and junk dealers and pawn-brokers and factories and and and... because the shipping cost is worth more than the motor. 10 HP is about what a small medium sized air handler unit from say a casino would use, so maybe try the local air conditioning (HVAC in the Yellow pages) guys for an old removed unit. And if a roof-top unit, they may be weather (read water) proof, and have shielding that is nice in your new metal working shop. And while they may save them, lots of those air handlers want to come up to speed slowly to stop belt-squeal/wear, so have "soft-starts", which would be nice for you.

Take care. Have a nice trip. Take pictures. Post pictures.

I've seen them for scrap prices in Sacramento. Send me an email if you're making a trip and want some leads.
