I'm relocating to Dallas and looking for a Bridgeport-type vertical mill and a 13x40 or 14x40 lathe in good condition. There are a few mills on Ebay but would prefer not to pay cross-country shipping. Does anyone have any leads on where to look?

Dave I can tell you that it's a sellers market in North Texas. Machines suitable for home shops (up to and including your specs) get snapped up pretty quickly if they are any kind of deal at all. Bridgeports go very quickly. The only used dealer in the area that I know of is Astra, in Grapevine. They have a website, but I have never been there. Other places I frequent have variable inventories, seldom anything worth having, and usually overpriced. If I were in your shoes I'd probably start looking when I got here, and if nothing turned up within 90 days I'd order new import stuff and get on with it.
