WTB/Trade power cable for Tektronix 323 portable Oscope

Guy swapped me for a pretty nice but seldom used Sony/Tektronix 323 portable O scope. It works well off the DC input terminals...thankfully, because he at some point lost the ac power cord

Its an odd one, square shape, about 5/8" on a side, with 3 pin terminals in an L shape.

I dont know which are power terminals, and cant determine because they are covered/potted inside. I think..think the power supply secton has nicad batteries on it, havent taken off the internal covers.

Works fine for machine tool repair, but really need the AC cord, as its a pain in the ass toting a seperate powersupply around with it.

Beats the hell out of carrying the big Hitachi dual trace around.

This is gonna replace the scope that was stolen with all my other tools some years ago, that Id gotten from Ned Simmons.

I ordered the ops/service manual on CD from an Ebay seller.

Any tips/sources would be appreciated. Or even a pinout so I can mickymouse a power cord.

Anyone know if this is supposed to have a cover over the controls?

It's probably one of the many standardized powerline connectors. There are a number of small companies that specialize in power cords, and one can order up just about anything from them.

The local Tek rep, especially their service and repair folk , may also be able to help. Especially if they haven't moved for some time, and so have piles-o-junk to match yours.

Check the three power connectors to see which one is grounded (connected to case). That one is ground, obviously. The other two, most likely can be connected to 110v in any of the two combinations (one hot, another neutral or reversed).

If you cannot find the power cord based on other posters' suggestions, you can always drill a hole in the case and install a cable with a strain relief. Make sure to vacuum chips as you drill.

Gunner,

When you have time, slather me with some possible uses for scopes other than Radio/TV repair. That's the only use I knew of when I was using one as a teenager. (5 decades ago) I recently acquired a used Heathkit scope (working condition) for $ 10 and would love to use it for something relating to machinery or automotive uses.

Thanks,

How many would you like. How about using it to watch fuel injector pulses to look for dropouts or timing problems. Looking at the ignition for possible faults. ABS speed sensors for intermittent problems or frequency output. EGR voltage graphing, Sensor testing for faults. There are a LOT more. The new scan tool I have has a scope built into it because of all the uses for one on newer vehicles.

WHAT *new scan tool* is that, Steve?

I'm still using an Actron. Doesn't have a scope. Just pulls codes.

Servo drives and optical encoders come to mind. Have to be real careful with grounding and isolation transformers on those applications or you will let out a lot of magic smoke.

On my dialup I can't search all six gazzilion pages. Hope you get lucky.

Usenet groups are a terrible place to advertise stuff for sale or trade or purchase.

Try E-Bay.

Huh? Gunner bought a Tektronix scope, I sent him a link to Tektronix where he might find a free manual. So far Gunner hasn't sent me a dime for my "service" nor is he expected to.

Some of the Sony / Tektronics scopes use the same power connector for AC and DC external power supplies, and have a pair of banana jacks for direct DC power. Sony used the same connectors for some of their consumer products, with a different wiring pattern. Also, the AC cords are two pin, not grounded.

You shouldn't expect anything, because it doesn't list a manual for the 323.
