Albrecht chuck

Hi Can anybody tell me if there is a easy way to take the arbor out of a Albrecht chuck or do you have to drill a small hole up the center of the chuck so that you can use a small drift . Ken

Ken,

I've always found that the 'notched wedges' work fine - squeeze them together gently in a vice and the arbor pops out:

More proof that the North / South divide exists.

The small hole method works fine. With a well fitting drift its kinder to the drift and the chuck to first fill the hole with thick oil and then hydraulic it out with a single heavy hammer blow. The hammer blow force is amplified by the square of the ratio of the arbor diameter to hole diameter so it makes quite a difference!

If you don't fancy drilling: get some pipe freezer spray from a plumber's merchant, and freeze (only) the arbour. Gripping the arbour tang in a vice, wallop the back of chuck with a hammer to remove.
