Bantam Bearing Adjustment

Hi,I'm looking for some guidance with the adjustment of new Gamet bearingsin a Mk1Colchester Bantam 1600.The manual states that you should pre-load the bearings to drop thespindleendfloat to 1/10th of a thou or less "whilst THE SPINDLE REMAINSFREE TO BETURNED BY HAND".I'm a bit concerned that "FREE TO BE TURNED BY HAND" is a bit vague andsubjective. I've tightened the spindle up and it can be turned by hand,althoughsome effort is required. Have I tightened them too much?Any thoughts or guidance would be much appreciated.Regards,Paul

Please don't think I am ignoring your message and as you know I'm not usually shy about posting my diatribes here but, with this one, I think Paul was being very kind. If it might be of use though to some I will tidy it up and post it as soon as I can find a little time. Sending it by e-mail was easier and much less likely to wake up the "spelling" police or start a theoretical/practical engineering "discussion".
