not really model engineering as such. I want to build a bridge, needs tospan about 7m (from memory) and carry a load of say 20T so that lorries canget across it to do deliveries.Anyone either a) know enough about strength of steel I-section to advise on beams for sameor b) know of a resource online to let me look it up.I have in mind laying concrete slabs something in the region of 1m wide by0.5m deep, either side of the river but not actually right on the edge, sohopefully avoiding the need to build big retaining walls in the watery bit.These will go along the bank enough to support the bridge deck, sort of likethis:expansion gap ex. gap terra firma--- ---------------------------------------------------- ------ |¯¯¯¯¯¯|--. bridge deck .--|¯¯¯¯¯¯| |______| / |______| concrete / concrete / river / WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWProbably the easiest option is 4 support beams, placed so that they're underthe typical vehicle track. The middle of the deck doesn't get so much load.So, who wants to jump in an say "it'll never work"? :-)

I remember having to set up a 'recover a Bedford 4T from a ditch' exercise while in the TA.

Drove Bedford into ditch, shuffled it around for a while to get it settled in, and the bloody thing still drove out. tried getting the wheels to spin in 2wd, to dig it in properly, the bloody thing still drove out. Ended up just having to pretend it was stuck!. Bloody good trucks them bedfords!
