Perhaps, but if your application needs 100% silicone then that is precisely what you specify when you buy - it might be a bargain but I have my doubts that the '£1 tube' in the plumbers merchants is anything like 100% silicone.
Rubbishing the products when they have been widely used in industry for decades is IMHO just plain daft, if they were no good, nobody would buy them!
