milling vice moveable jaw rise

Anyone know what causes that?

Is it just that it either rises or sinks, because the workpiece is never ever exactly square, so 50% of the time it rises and 50% it would like to fall but it can't??

Think I may be well wrong somewhere here, or something

Its because the screw is inline with the middle of the jaw height so work at the top will try to rotate the jaw upwards, work at the bottom downwards. The squareness of teh work has little to do with it
