OK now I've bin and gone and done it !



Large flatbed turned up today and Hi-Ab'ed a Bridgeport Interact Series 1 with Heidenhain 151 controls into my workshop. Well actually it's annexed a bit of the 'new' garage - I knew it was worth building it as long as I could



All seems to work, just need to get my head round Heidenhain language - got it describing circles with the quill going up and down. Need to do a bit of cleaning up and housekeeping but looks like I got a 'good 'un '



I'm running a Transwave 5.5 Kw rotary converter and initially had fun and games - everything worked ok until the spindle started, when it tripped out the controller. All the electrics & electronics only use one of the three phases, with only the spindle motor actually using three phases, so I monitored the phase o/ps of my converter and found which pair held up best under load transients and made sure that was the pair feeding the electronics - works fine now.



Not yet proved the RS232 so no pc yet attached - more fun tomorrow



Anyone got a spare Bridgeport servo drive board kicking arround to base my 4th axis round ???

It did look like you had too much floor showing when I dropped in before Christmas! Glad to know you're on the way back to normality but you're still 6 or

7 machines (or 20) tons behind John Stevenson.

You can download TNCremo for free from the heidenhein web site to connect to a PC. Heidenhein are quite friendly about supporting it, even on older machines. I was talking to them last week about drip feeding to a TNC151 (because I'd forgotton to put it in the right mode first -doh!).

PS What sort or supply doese your converter need, and is it static or rotary. I'd always ruled out an interact as I haven't got 3 phase

-but now your making me think!

Thanks - yes I've got TNCremo from the dealer I got 'the beast' from..

I'm running a 7.5 HP transwave rotary off a 32A breaker with no problems todate.

Previously I've run a Moog Hydropoint 1000 (10 HP hydraulic supply) and a 23CFM compressor for its air off two home made static converters, each of which took well over 100A at start up for maybe 10 seconds. Both converters were running off 30A re-wireable fused circuits and amazingly neither ever blew nor did the 100A company fuse !!! Lights used to dim in the neighbourhood though

That's a bit ironic, BT Yahoo are my ISP!

I didn't even sign up to BT news though, as when I rang up the "help" line with some configuration problems I was having the person I spoke to kept telling me how to get news headlines -even though I tried 3 times to explain newsgroups. The 1mb broadband connection is fine, but don't expect anything too technical.

I think 100A is probably beyond the limits one could reasonably expect to get from a domestic supply, it might dim the lights down the street somewhat!

When I used to run a toolroom we had a 100A 3 phase supply to run the factory on. We had 3 cnc mills, a spark eroder, 6 bridgeports, lathe,

4 grinders, 6 injection moulding machines, about 10 power presses, and assorted other stuff (although not all running together). We experienced some problems with fuses blowing, and after we took the local sub station out they came to investigate what the problem was. On a normal day (with an average number of machines running -not as many as we sometimes had) the engineer put a clamp meter round the phases and we were drawing 180-190 amps per phase! They uprated the supply for a very reasonable cost -but the electric bills went up when we got a new meter that could record what power we actually used (aparently if you draw 180 amps through a 100A meter it can only record 100A of the power!).
