solvent for ethylene butyl acrylate polymer

Hello,

does any one know a solvent for ethylene butyl acrylate polymer? We tried several solvents like HFI and o-cresol but the polymer chips don't dissolve at all.

Thanks oenp

If your polmer is crosslinked, you are stuck. For dissolving the polymer, try hot NMP (N-methyl pyrrolidone).

If you just want to remove the polymer and its chemical degradation is not an issue, try 10-20% sodium hydroxide. Lye is what is used to strip old oil paint.

My best guess would be xylenes or toluene. A lot depends upon the ratio of ethylene to the acrylate, and to the total mol weight.

Polar solvents usually make things worse with this type of polymer.

We used to use hot hexachlorobenzene as a solvent for high density polyethylene. That would be an extreme.
