I am aware of only this robotics discussion group. Are there others that you would recommend?

This is probably the best one actually.

But you can try looking around on Yahoogroups. There are a few there.

Look for robotics, BEAM...

I started one there a few years back called torobotics but it seems to be running out of steam... er battery power.
