SuperREGIS Web-Teleoperated Robot -- Update

(See the link in my sig to get there.)

I know -- it's been a while since I posted. Just a bit of news --

SuperREGIS has been updated with a significantly better camera, and a tweaked UI that allows selection of color or monochrome image frames as well as the ability to select (with significant limitations) the desired image quality. Feel free to give it a test ride, and shoot me any feedback you might have -- especially on any bugs in the applet.

Known issue: if you are using the MS Java virtual machine, you may see a bit of flicker on the image panel. I'm working on this one -- it only appears to occur when using the MS JVM and when using drawImage to draw on a Panel instance. Any suggestions welcome...

Bigger changes, though, are in the works:

1) REGIS is retiring, to be replaced by New Blu, Part Dieux. (Yes -- I name my robots the way other people name racehorses.) You can see Nu Blue sitting idle in the middle of my office most days.

2) Improved video -- maybe even streaming video more or less.

3) Support for remote Player clients over the internet.

4) Online occupancy grid mapping. This should be coming up reasonably soon, depending on the dayjob workload.

That's it for now. The robot is generally up from 9:00AM to 5:00pm or later US Central Standard Time. It may not be up until a bit later on the weekends assuming I get to sleep in that day. Seee the link in the sig to get there.

I am new to the robotic scene but when i saw your website and your fantastic robot I was even more inspired to get going and actually get off my ar$e and start constructing... I know it will take me years to get to that kinda level but still everyone needs goals... :o)

Well done mate and can't wait to see Nu Blue up and about.

On a seperate note I have ordered your book "Programming Robot Controllers (Robot DNA S.)" from Amazon today.

Well done again,

Dave.

One more small item for thost that have never used REGIS before: there's a mirror on the floor toward the back of the office. As you're facing the rear stairs, it will be on your left toward the rear of the room leaning against the white chest freezer. You can use it to see "yourself".
