Evidently the terrorists do not have that choice,or something cheaper and more effective is not available. But Qassams certainly are NOT trivial in the Israelis opinion.

The Qassam is definitely preferable to a suicide bomber. We're not talking a V-2 sized dart with a large explosive warhead, if a person was sitting in a house and the thing scored a direct hit the house the chances of hitting the person IN the house are still (let's see a house might be 2.500 square feet....... a person is say, two square feet)........that's 1,200 to 1 IF it hit the house. We're back to the one in a million shot which was explained years ago,
Nah, just stupid. A web search showed a couple of the bodies for those things. They were machined metal - the sort of workmanship you see on very few toy rockets.
If they can get the Qassam parts, there's got to be an easier way to get something lethal. Perhaps they stiffed Kim Il Sung (The DEALMAKER) on a payment.
There's a joke I could make about the Palestinians needing a good accountant, but you don't seem to have a sense of humor. It's not exactly PC, anyway.
Unlike my friend Avrim in the Israeli Army. He thought the suggestion of a (as he puts it) Israeli-Palestinian War Zone Resort is hysterical. He thinks it has promise. Now, Avrim;s the kind of guy who would patent it and make money off of it. Still, he's a good guy. He'd probably give me a week at the best room in the resort.

Qassam rockets might have made sense in the old days. But Hamas and others seem to be going for the "large, messy, and absolutely guaranteeing the Palestinians will never have self rule."
Wait. I'm trying to make sense of Hamas' military strategy. Their military strategy seems to be "make sure I still have a job as a terrorist leader tomorrow."
I've got this really bad habit where I expect everyone to be reasonable. You think that after the guy cut off his penis to punish his wife for cheating on him, I'd have given up on that.
But NO! I keep expecting people to be logical, and then I get honked off at them when they do something really, really stupid.
Come to think of it, expecting everyone else to behave in a civilized manner is not being reasonable. Hmmm.

Not if they would put their helmets on.
