Anyone building the 1/100 Airfix HMS Victory?

Are there any images of the build-up?

I am contemplating purchasing this kit if the Heller kit is unavailable, but I am interested first off looking at images of someone else's build up.

Regards.

I could swear that it was about 1/150 scale, not 1/100.

The one I am thinking of came out about 1965-1966 and is not too bad for a shelf-type model -- about 21" long overall when done and it has all of the broadside guns as well as port covers, something the much older and smaller Revell kit does not. I can't recall if it has the carronades or not, but I do recall it has most of the upper deck 12 pound guns.

It's pretty typical for an Airfix kit of its era -- plastic sails, preformed ratlines, and some odds and ends thrown in. The yards are a bit flimsy and all of the masts and yards have to be handled with care.

There are 3, 1/100, 1/180 and 1/1200 IIRC

The 1/100 is a re-released for the 200th anniversary of Triffalga(sp?).

According to some boards it is a Heller kit re-labeled.

Wayne, Here go some sites on the HMS Victory. Some of them are of the actual ship sitting in England somewhere while the others are of the model. I have not built this ship, nor do I have any intentions of building it - my sanity is worth more than tackling this headache. If I have to go nuts, I will do it with my wooden ships..

If you cannot get to the link by clicking on it, copy it into your url address line, then hi-lite it and hit return, that should take you there.

Good luck with your HMS Victory.

Cheers,

I picked one up on eBay this year, being the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar (correct spelling).

The 1/100 kit is the original stunning Heller kit, but reboxed by Airfix. The one that Cookie was thinking of is the old Airfix model from the late

1960s. There's a cop-out with the two lower deck guns, in that they are just barrels plugged into holes. The old Revell kit from the early 1960's had complete cannon, but not many of them...

As for HMS Victory and her present location, Portsmouth Naval Dockyard in southern England. She's the oldest ship in the Royal Navy!

PS Did anyone make a set of the missing entry ports for the hull sides? The original issue of the kit is missing these items, which were present at Trafalgar, removed during a later refit, then replaced during a restoration.
