DVD "Battle of Britain"

What is supposed to be "not too good" about last year's edition? Or is this another of those dvd scams to get money by making you buy it twice?

That's more than enoguh for me to prefer it over the "conventional" release. But of course, I never got to buy that one in the first place...

My TV is digital using internal RGB, but I also have a Pace DVB-T PVR looped through an oldish Sony DVD player (with RGB pass through) to RGB Scart 1 - so basically everything I watch including TV is RGB.

The PVR has RGB pass through as well so I could stick a game in its Scart

Yes, I think so... I just switch to comsposite via the tv menu when I want to record via the stb but want to watch another channel.

Since I never bother with the fluff on the 2nd discs,I think I'll stick with last years.Like I said...just something to squeeze out a few more pennies that I can spend on models :)

That is a pretty impressive lineup of extras....I'll probably re-buy when they release the R1 version... I'm not sure what's flawed about the existing R1 DVD, it looks and sounds fine to me, esp. compared to the dodgy 'cram and scam' VHS version that was all you could get for a long time....

(X-15, however...... it's pretty annoying to see the 'real flight' footage stretched to fill a cinemascope picture...yuch...ah, well, good meat for detail and diorama building... :) )

OTOH, does anyone know if the Walton score is the *only* score on the film, or is it a selectable option? Because, at great risk of ruffling feathers, I really didn't think it was as powerful as the Ron Goodwin score....Walton's score was overall too light and fluffy for my tastes...

I dunno, seems to me that might come across as underwelming in Dolby 5.1, but since the best I can listen to is just plain old stereo, maybe it won't matter... :)

You can select the Goodwin one or Walton throughout. To me Walton started to become a bit 'samey' as his score sounds a bit like his Orb & Sceptre stuff more suited to people with crowns on their heads while marching down St. Pauls. Contrast that with his great Henry Vth score. Shame the other 'Williams' boy wasn't around to do the work. Ralph Vaughan Williams did some great film music without getting a bit too 'chocolate boxey'.

I liked Goodwin's Luftwaffe March which has a great teutonic tone to it such that most people thought it was a traditional German march.
