i got the bugger finished and i'm surprised. ignoring the tracks, the kit seems pretty good. wjile it looked kind of toyish and clunky in the box, it nuilt up nicely. after painting i noticed i had the big guns pointing back and taking the casements off for a switch was easy. i painted it khaki, now i'm almost ready for weathering. i'm wondering which way to go. cookie or any of the armor guys thoughts would be appreciated. tanks...

Bear in mind that the tracks go all the way round, so dirt and mud cascaded down the sides of these vehicles. Heavy washes seem the way to go here (or "filters," as they are now being dubbed). I prefer artists' watercolors for washes, (with a drop of dishwashing liquid so it flows smoothly and doesn't bead up). You can experiment to your heart's content, and if you don't like the effect, just rinse it off and start over. If you do get a ring where a droplet of the wash has dried, just scrub it gently with a slightly damp brush to feather it out. When you're done, an overspray with clear flat will seal the finish. If you want to follow up with some dry pigment or powdered pastel chalks, that can add a real nice dust effect in nooks and crannies (beware of overspraying clear coats on powders, as the powder will float off gthe4e surface into the clear paint, and darken or disappear entirely). Mud can be simulated with Celluclay (an instant papier mache material sold in art supply stores--it resembles a block of gray lint in the package). For wetter mud, artist's acrylic paint out the tube works, especially if you work some gritty material into it for texture. Some fibers suggesting grass can also make it more convincing. By the way, Model Cellar plans to rerelease their link to link track set for this vehicle later this spring, should you wish to correct the tracks. Gerald Owens
