"Sherman" by R.P. Hunnicutt has several 1/48 scale drawings in it, and I suspect George Bradford of AFV News has 1/35 drawings you can purchase.

I don't think I would recommend the M4A1, the cast hull could be difficult to get the contours right. The welded hull should be easier to fabricate.

You could also buy a 1/35 scale model kit and use the parts and pieces to fabricate your 1/6 scale model.

Of course, finding the full size thing isn't completely impossible... :-)

The most difficult part about the sherman 1:1 scale is finding one in Australia, there are three and they are 800 km away, I like the cast hull for the challenge, I will Probably build the plate hull first and work on the cast later, as I also want to build the DD (duplex drive, swimming tank) version.
