Which paint is best for using on diecast metal out of enamel or acrylic.

By diecast, I assume you are talking about cars? If so, the best way is to strip the diecast first, with aircraft-grade paint stripper (made for non-ferrous metals), then use an automotive self-etching primer, followed by your choice of finish.

I agree with laying down a primer first. Years ago I painted some FASA Star trek gaming miniatures that were white metal. I used enamel paint which went on very nice. Then a short time goes by and paint started to chip off and these pieces were not handled much at all!

On the rare occasions that I paint figures for games, I always prime with a light gray primer. It makes all the differenece in finish durability.

I did a 1/43 dicast hummer. I stripped the paint in laquer thinner. Cleaned it well, primed it with a tremclad like metal primer (airbrushed) and painted it with modelmaster enamels. So far no trouble.
