Joe,

If your willing to play golf in Phoenix around the 1st of Aug. you must be a serious golfer!

Of course, last time I was in Phoenix, the humidity was still quite low. I hear that has changed as people moving to the area insisted on bringing their pools and green lawns.

Besides, by that time, the summer monsoons will have started. Which means that you can actually count the rain[1] that fall in an area.

Well, I'll tell you! I did a short stretch at Ft. Huachucha some years ago and my reaction was that I couldn't understand for the life of me why so many retirees would move to Arizona. Now that I've retired and have arthritis and allergies, I understand!

if you wanna do it on the cheap, move to barstow. houses for a song and access to everything by a short ride down to the valley.

Or an early riser!

Actually as I understand it, you can get some very good greens fees in the area in the summer, but you need to play before the sun comes up.

As they say.

It's dry heat.

But so is an oven!

Actually, if you are willing to start after about 2 pm, the municipal courses (and maybe others) are REALLY cheap. I know for a fact that many courses offer summer specials, the tourism rate is really down and they still need to make money. There are some fancy hoity toity types that you cannot get on at all during the winter season that are just about begging for players now. It's not really that bad, but make sure you drink a lot of water. And plan on being really tired the rest of the night. russ

Joe,

Unless there has been some serious crushing of salvage yards around Phoenix, there are any number of businesses selling good solid sheet metal! Have you checked Hemming's Motor News? That monthly restorer's "bible" is full of southwest rust-free yards.

Hint: Having driven some of the secondary highways around Phoenix, particularly to the east and north (but don't write off Casa Grande to the south), there are any number of smaller yards as well. When you get close to Nat's time, spend extra time searching Hemming's, and checking websites, I'd be willing to bet you will turn up some stuff.

OK, time to return to our regular program......
