WTB: M60 Kit (1960s era)

Hi All,

After a loooooooong time away from building models, I now want get back into it a little bit. I would like to build a simple diorama of a early-to-mid 60s-era M60 "Patton" tank. My dad drove one in the Army National Guard and this is going to be a gift to him.

Does anyone have a quality, 1/35 or 1/48 unbuilt kit for sale, or can anyone suggest a decent kit?

Thanks much.

The best 1/35th scale M60A1 kit was released by the now-defunct Esci company about ten years ago. The good news is that it was recently re-released by Italeri and Revell/Germany. It is available in US and Israeli versions. It is far superior to the Tamiya and Academy kits. GPO

Gerald is right, the ESCI kit (now re-released by ESCI) is the best of the lot. But if you want an M60 (the kit can be built as either an A1 or A3, based on fittings IIRC) you will need a resin turret and new tracks.

Chesapeake Model Designs makes a gorgeous M60 turret, and AFV Club T107 tracks make it right.

I'll second CMD's Slick 60 turret. Nicely done. Rob Gronovius Modern US armor at

Your kind of confusing the issue a little aren't you? The M60 turret was a close copy of the M48 with an extended bustle correct? The A1's, A3's used the improved turret. Lets not get into the A2. Things can get a little complicated when one refers to all 60's as " the M60". They're not. Maybe we need to ask the originator to find out which variant his father was on.

That was the point of the message. Unless he is really young most likely it's an M60 or A1.

Problem is the base chassis for the kit, and the one I have in the basement (an A3) comes with all of the bits for either an A1 or A3 except for the T142 track links. The ESCI kit is still the best place to start.
