You'll probably find that it works. My even older Elsa Synergy II (16 MB, TNT2-based) works, but it's slow for anything above 1024 x 768 resolution and more than a couple of windows.



Elsa did good stuff, but their CAD tweaks and utilities were for AutoCAD. They suffered bankruptcy a while ago, and the German firm that bought Elsa's designs no longer seems to maintain

which is a bad sign.



If I were starting out with a modern computer, I'd look for a newer card from a maker still alive and kicking.



As for what to pay on ebay... simply search on the card in question, then search "completed items." You'll see a range of prices for completed auctions.

I would recommend a QuadroFX 500 ~$230 IIRC. There are better more expensive Quadros, but this has the best bang for the buck IMO.

ATI FireGL cards are in the same price range as the Nvidia cards and are pretty comparable in SWX, but I have no experience with them.

Just be sure to stay away from GeForce or Radeon cards, they do not work very well in SWX. There are ways to fix them for SWX, but it is not worth the extra effort IMO.

One of the 'BIG' things about ELSA going out of business, was that they had some sort of agreement to distribute the Quadra based cards. Read that as they were the only vendor that had them.

Since then, PNY has picked up the agreement with NVIDIA and they are now the distributor.... They also did something that deserves kudos', that being they are honoring the ELSA warranties....
