sw net (options) administration tool ?

How do you enforce company standards in your SW seats across a network ? A customer (about 30 seats) wants an interactive tool to maintain a . reg file with all "company standards" options and settings, then a way (batch file...) to enforce them every time a user launches a SW session. He doesn't like the SW options export tool as only a subset of the options is important, and doesn't want to edit .reg manually. Is it the right way ? Does such a tool already exist ? Would you need one ? How do you enforce your company standards ? Thanks! Philippe Gugleilmetti -

There is "Administrative Images" in 2005...you can migrate the registry settings to clients..check out "What's new" PDF for more information. Almost tried it, but then for some reason that I don't remember I used the regular .reg-file instead.

Hi Philippe

We have 21 license. The way I have done so we have the same settings is like this: I made all the keyboard shortcuts we use. Made a copy of my ksa.cus file and placed it in a folder on a shared drive. Then I made a file called Tresu.reg. It has all the necessary settings. And there is a lot more then you get from the Copy Option Wizard. Here you have to be careful when writing and copy-paste. Made a lot of export from reg-editor.

We have choosen not to import the settings every day but only when I have changed a setting. But it should be possible to make a bat file which activates the reg file. Then make a shortcut and put it in your startgroup. I don't know about the cus file. I hoped SolidWorks had changed it to a reg file instead of *.cus.

Kind regards

Klaus

We support more than 40 seats and need to "enforce" certain settings in SolidWorks. I have not seen a better way than editing the registry keys for the specific settings we want as a standard. We use a Windows login batch file to call the registry file every login because (you might be surprised) some users make changes to the settings that should be left as our standard. It is also an easy way to make sure that a new install has the correct settings. We also make a copy of our modified Hole Wizard database if it has changed.

You might be able to run a script off the SW shortcut icon. I know the XP command line can read and write the registry. He would have to hand write the script which you said he doesn't want to do.

There also was an excel spreadsheet floating around on the group that would read and set almost all the SW registry settings.
