Help!! HO-style train powers up but does not move forward

If the car lights are lit then there is power to the track. With the body of the engine off set it on the track without any other cars. apply power ang check the motor for movement, then the gears, etc. good luck.

If its steam, Check side rods to see if any of them are jamed somtimes if it derailed. it may have jamed one of those. some times jusr a little tug will free them.

Maybe your side rods have jammed if its a steam loco. A little gentle pus or pull may free them up.the side rods are the things that connet the wheels on a steam loco

These two statements make it sound like the motor is turning, but the power is not getting to the wheels where it belongs. If the wheels turn freely, then you may have a broken drive gear, or driveshaft coupler from the motor.

It was a number of issues; a loose/missing screw on the undercairrage was seeming to make it derail; once replaced it seemed to be fine; also some of the track was a bit bent and tended to shift since was on a hard wooden floor; now it's taped down when in use and does not go out of round; I have resolved most of the issues but I am sure there are more to come; and I guess that's 1/2 the fun... :)
