Pennsylvania Railroad Museum celebrates upgrades

Railroad Museum celebrates upgrades By Jessica Bair - 5/18/2007

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania blew the whistle today on about $1.4 million worth of upgrades to its facility in Strasburg Township, Lancaster County.

About 5,000 square feet of new space was constructed, including a larger entryway and lobby area and new space for the museum store, which now has an outside entrance. The old museum store space was converted into exhibit space.

Construction on the project started in February 2006 and wrapped up about a month ago, said David Dunn, the museum director. Further renovations are planned for the next few years, including a visitor orientation theater.

The project was funded from federal transportation enhancement grants, the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission Keystone Preservation Fund and the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
