help! Its in several of my all too many books but I can't find the mantra for clearance of a CI piston in a CI bore. Bore in this case is 2 7/8" and original clearance, at the bottom of the skirt seems to be about 0.003" however the bore is VERY heavily worn. regards
clearance

FWIW, from a book of the early 30s: "A good rule for cast-iron piston clearance is, .002" should be allowed at the piston lands for each inch of piston diameter, and .001" at the skirt."
