aye, I can understand artistic licence and the need to make it entertaining, provided you end up with something artistic and entertaining, the fastest indian was autistic and abysmal, the bits they left out about burts life and character, eg most of it, would have made a bloody good film, as opposed to a vehicle for hopkins to buy yet another villa / island somewhere.

these guys would make a "life and times of i.k. brunel" and mention in passing in the 64th minute that he might have designed a paperclip or something, while concentrating on the entirely ficticious love interest between mrs brunel and the gardener...

just as there are no kiwi actors who could have played burt, samuel l jackson would be cast as brunel, karen black as mrs brunel, and a cgi river phoenix as the gardener, automobiles supplied by the ford motor company, coca cola is the real thing.

Now i think your taking this whole thing out of proportion it is after all only a movie. Nothing more, nothing less. It does what is supposed to in that it entertains. (I've heard nothing but posotive reviews of the film, apart of course from your own).

I got the new dvd for christmas and was disapointed by the alternative ending. All that is different is that the crew of the research vessel try to stop her throwing the necklace into the sea.

Overall i think it is a pretty decent dvd though and personally one of my favourite films.

I heartily agree, having been brought up in living memory of the original Titanic. It was an insult to those involved (but not the incompetants involved in its deployment).

One thing I will say for Anthony Hopkins - he admits that he acts for the money - quite refreshing to hear someone honest about his motives in that business! I think I heard him saying this in the context of being asked about the crap movies he has appeared in.

Sean Connery has said much the same: if they pay me, I do it. I did hear that if it was a crappy script he held out for a bigger pay cheque. No wonder the man has so much dosh!
