Great Dorset

Had a booking flyer from GDSF yesterday. It included a notice saying that pay on arrival camping is not available this year. It seems if you want to stay on the site, you MUST pre-book.

That follows on from last year when the casual camp site was full by Wednesday creating all sorts of traffic problems. The local caravan sites did a great trade though.

There was talk last year of using an extra field across the road from the main site and putting a temporary overhead bridge in.

Obviously nothing came of this.

I was under the impression that pretty much every hotel, B&B and campsite within about 40miles of the site was usually fully booked for the rally week, by mid July,

Mike,

Three years ago a mate and I decided to stop visiting for the five days and try and rally instead and so far we have we have been excepted every year. Financially this year would also have been very expensive, camping and entry for instance. We take turns looking after the engine which is my most expensive item,

20 litres of fuel for five days, otherwise we use my caravan and bring our food. We dont buy much food on site as that is also expensive.

We exhibit, but take a vintage display instead of an engine. That way it is much easier to look after, as you camp next to your exhibit, on the acutal show field.

Te only food & drink we buy on site is fresh milk, bread and meat. We take everything else we need with us.

If I was to ever exhibit an engine at Dorset I think it would be best to doa as we do at Astle and Welland and get a few people together and put all our engines in a row and take turn in looking after each others engine, so that everyone is then free to roam around at their pleasure, without having to worry about not running your engine.
