Model Engineering advice on converting hot tube to magneto ...

One of the other forums has an ongoing conversation about the possible demise of ME.

Made me recall one of the earlier series that I followed. In the early '50s there was a multi-part series on Updating an Old Engine or somesuch.

The series took a small 1900's open-crank hot bulb with forged crankshaft, & proceeded to "modernise" it with mag & balanced crank, & a bunch of other "improvements". Goodness knows how many pretty, early, small open cranks were "improved" as this series of articles ran on.

I still have the articles, as I have most ME's. I no longer read this particular series as it hurts! Strangely, I suspect they originally triggered my interest in stationary engines -- along with the realisation that I was marginally less incompetent when wielding spanners on 12" scale models than when faced with some serious lathework on tiny components ...
