Thanks Greg and all,

I have mounted the inverter on a piece of suitable timber and only hang it in the van for convenience, I also have a camper and a caravan which have mains and gennie use which in the former use the site earth etc. Its been an interesting thread.

except the possibility of frying something in a vehicle that is not mine. :-))

Gentlemen,

Because of the way modern vehicles are built it would be impractical to bond every panel in the body because of the waterproofing between each panel that is put in during construction. Every modern vehicle is a collection of spot rivets moving along in formation.

Nice try Martin but there's no way your Bedford resembles a Shackleton. You only really need to bond the chassis, one point on the body (if it's not already connected) and the usual electrical gubbins.

John,

I'm referring to the Company van as dormobile is set up for genny and mains and no room for the inverter where as the van and the way it is built with no chassis is not :-)) One to me I think :-))

Martin,

You seem to be developing a worryingly competitive streak Martin.

I have a 250W one in my camper and it doesn't have one so there must be variations between brands, it just reinforces the point that it's a very grey area.

I didn't suggest bonding it after the RCD, obviously it has to be bonded before the RCD, as to connecting to earth I have to point out that there's no such thing in a van if you're not using an earth spike, there is only a circuit protective conductor (CPC).

That's an important point when converting a camper and fitting a mains hookup, the regs require bonding to the body and you do indeed have to bond across such glue joints. Obviously there's no point in bonding extraneous parts like wings though.
