SEM?

Anyone had a sniff of SEM yet?

Bought the first of my yearly two copies of Old Glory this weekend - appearance of the rally guide always raises the spirits.

No, nothing yet in North Wales, Nick. Most likely a bumper issue, packed full of good stuff, so a bit slower to arrive ;-).

I bought a copy of 'Vintage Spirit' the other week and it has a rally guide that covers the whole year, not split into two parts. So you only need to buy one magazine a year :-)

Now that's what I call canny! If Gordon Brown gets wind of this, you might well be head-hunted for the exchequer, McT-E. ;-)

I just phoned Kelsey - it seems they have changed the publication date from the first of the month to the first FRIDAY of the month. So, we must bate our breath until Friday!

Ah that's better, the cold turkey is beginning to subside already!

Good issue - though 'Bob Weight' appears to be running out of things to write about. The illustration of a 1931 ad for what appears to be a Stuart type N in 'Engine Torque' will give me an excuse to air my views on the introduction date of these engines.

Nothing in the ad's has quite the right combination of attraction and affordability to seriously tempt me, but I note that both the Stuart Turner Sandhurst and Stewart Little Wonder which went nowhere on ebay recently (probably due to four-figure starting prices) are there. I wonder if they will fare any better in a more specialised market place?

I too was not tempted to open my wallet and bring the Queen blinking into the light.

I'm in two minds about Bob Weight. Some of his stuff is excellent - well observed, cogent and sensible. Other times I want to reach for the blue pencil and write "Make your point" across it in big letters!

This is exactly why I am not a regular contributor - I can waffle with the best of 'em, but not in a magazine that people pay to read!

I actually sold six year sets of my spare SEM's this week - now, what can I spend it on?

Off to Kent tomorrow to play with our Saxon hall in the snow - and to pick up a Villiers flat twin at the same time .....

Seriously pretty pics at

And there was me expecting pictures of an engine. What a disappointment ;-)

I know not of a Villiers flat twin - looking forward to more details.
