What do you use your computer for.

Gentlemen,

I have put this also on the IF forum so please don't answer twice.

Over the last three weekends there has been a programme on BBC 2 called the Virtual Revolution, its been about the history, present and future of the Internet and has been very interesting. What I would like to know from you all is what do you use your computer for and which of you uses Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and My Space and why. Vie left Youtube out because its not what I would class as a social networking site directly where as the others are. Please indulge me as I am curious about how we all interact with our computers particularly as we are all, I believe, of a particular social and educated group of people.

I don't use any of the above sites, I don't see the point as I want to see and be able to speak to my friends. Those of you who use Facebook, how many friends!! do you have and have you heard of the Dunbar Number for instance.

Anyway please take a moment to join in as I am interested in your answers.

I do not take part on any social networking sites other than this one and the Regia E-group, our closed to members group that functions very much like this newsgroup.

I use the computer mainly in connection with the hobby. Mostly searching for information and parts through engine related newsgroups, auction sites, search engines, etc.. I suppose I am a =93lurker=94 on most sites, occasionally chipping in. My interest in engine marques is fairly blinkered (no offence intended!) and I scan through seven newsgroups, this being first on the list, then move on to emails where others are posted to me. Any search engine on a vaguely relevant site gets a few choice words punched in. For photograph storage and posting, very useful. Most letters are written and stored on the computer, although occasions sometimes call for the refuelling of the fountain pen. Finding the goods we require through on-line shopping has advantages, but I still prefer, if possible, to hand over a bag of cash rather than use plastic on-line.

Facebook, Twitter, etc.,=85..I=92m not going there! Don=92t even ask!

I regard computers as a double edged sword....although trying to avoid any backswing is becoming difficult!

Regards, Dave Carter.

Missed the question!

I use the computer for writing articles, the occasional book, sound and video editing, research. Resolving, editing and storing some 15,000 still images. Correlating & storing data, archiving & printing. Internet communication across the world with four separate specialist interest groups.

It's quite useful really ...........
